Floorball

Today was the first meeting to register interest for playing Floor ball. I am still waiting to hear from  2 more classes before we can see how many children are interested. Once I have meet with the remaining 2 classes a signmee will be sent out to the parents and caregivers of those children who have indicated they are interested in forming a team. Floor ball will be replacing the unihoc competition and will be run by H2O on a Monday night with games played between 3:30 and 6. Children are able to catch a bus for those early games.

Floorball is a fast growing type of hockey played indoors with "plastic" sticks and a light weight plastic ball with holes. Typically five field players and a goalkeeper (without a stick) play on a fully enclosed rink. The goals are set in so play continues behind the goal-line, similar to ice hockey. Floorball is a safe, fast and fun sport and easy for people to pick up as other than a stick, no protective gear is required. There are few rules, mainly to make it a safe sport for everyone.
As some of you will be aware there will no longer be a School aged Unihoc competition, instead the council and H2O will be running Floorball. Floorball is very similar to Unihoc, with less rules so more flow to the game. Floorball is also offered at intermediate and college levels with those who show promise and passion able to compete in National and International competitions as adults. Click the picture below to watch a clip and you will see that Floorbal really is veru similar to Unihoc.
